PREP BASEBALL: Aurora tops Neosho in walk-off fashion

AURORA, Mo. — Kelton Brown delivered a walk-off single to right field in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift Aurora to a 3-2 win over Neosho on Saturday. 

The Houn’ Dawgs (8-0) won the game despite recording just four hits. 

The hosts scored twice in the first inning, as Aaron Fisher scored on a fielder’s choice before Brown hit an RBI single into left.

The Wildcats cut their lead in half in the third. River Brill reached on an error and later scored on Ryan Cargile’s RBI single to center. 

Neosho tied it up in the sixth. Lane Yost singled and took second on an error. Cargile sacrificed, sending Yost to third. Wyatt Keplar then recorded a game-tying single to center.

The game remained deadlocked until the bottom of the eighth.

Aurora’s Fisher was hit by a pitch to start and he went to second on Carson Barr’s sacrifice. After a walk and an out, Brown came through for the hosts. 

Trey Mulholland started for Aurora and went 7 2/3 innings, striking out 10 and limiting the Wildcats to one earned run. Barr got the final out of the eighth after Mulholland reached his pitch count.

Neosho’s Carter Fenske went six innings on the mound. He struck out six, scattered three hits and did not allow an earned run. 

Yost had two of Neosho’s seven hits. Brown had two of Aurora’s four hits.   

Neosho meets Carl Junction at 2 on Monday at the Bill O’Dell Tournament in Carthage.
