MINK LEAGUE: Outlaws beat Renegades in regular season finale; Joplin will host wild-card game Monday

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. With a home playoff game on the line, the Joplin Outlaws defeated the Jefferson City Renegades 6-0 on Saturday night in a MINK League clash at Vivion Field.

With the win, the Outlaws (18-21) earned the No. 2 seed for the South Division playoffs. Joplin also secured the right to host No. 3 Jefferson City (16-19) at 7 on Monday in a wild-card playoff game at Joe Becker Stadium.

The Outlaws pushed across a single tally in the second inning on Caden Bressler’s sacrifice fly. 

Joplin added a run in the sixth on Jared Toler’s RBI double.

The Outlaws blew the game open by plating four runs in the top of the ninth. 

Caleb Feuerstake delivered a three-run double and he later scored from third on a wild pitch for a six-run cushion. 

Drake Angeron, Logan Cline and Toler had two hits apiece for the Outlaws. 

Clayton Saporito earned the pitching victory after tossing five scoreless innings. He scattered seven hits and struck out four.

Jack O’Brien, Austin Gottula, Christian DeJesus and Justin Schrader pitched one scoreless inning apiece in relief to preserve the shutout. 

The Renegades managed just seven hits against Joplin’s five pitchers. 

Jefferson City’s Xander Lovin took the loss after allowing two runs on six hits in six innings. 

Monday’s winner advances in the playoffs to play No. 1 Sedalia.
