MINK BASEBALL: Outlaws suffer home loss to A’s

The Clarinda A’s scored seven late runs to earn a 13-9 come from behind win over the Joplin Outlaws on Wednesday night in MINK League action at Joe Becker Stadium. 

The Outlaws led 8-6 after five innings, but the A’s plated three runs in the sixth and four in the seventh. Joplin added a single tally in the eighth, but it wasn’t enough.

The hosts got off to a great start. 

The Outlaws plated four runs in the bottom of the first inning. Garrett Chun delivered a run-scoring single to center, Max Bruff drew a bases-loaded walk and Matt Woodmansee contributed a two-run single to center. 

The A’s scored three runs in the top of the third, but the hosts answered with three runs in the bottom half. 

During the frame, Cade Lott hit a sac fly, Carson Johnson added an RBI single and Caden Bressler hit an RBI double for a 7-3 lead.

Clarinda pushed across two runs in the fourth before both teams added single tallies in the fifth. 

The A’s outscored the Outlaws 10-2 after the third inning en route to victory. 

A Webb City product, Woodmansee drove in three runs on one hit. Bressler had two RBI, while Chun, Lott and Johnson drove in one run apiece.

Bressler, Bruff and Johnson had two hits apiece, while Sam Fagan doubled. 

Ethan Sally started for Joplin and allowed five runs on four hits and six walks in 3 1/3 innings.

Kinson Michel, Andrew Sumner, Casey Thibault and Harold Baez pitched in relief. 

Clarinda’s Aidan Garrett drove in six runs on two hits, a double and a triple. Will Walsh was the winning pitcher after allowing just one run in three innings of relief. 

The Outlaws are now 14-15, still good for first place in the South Division.

Clarinda is 21-9 on the season, second in the North Division behind St. Joseph (21-8). 

The Outlaws are at Sedalia on Thursday and Friday before a date at St. Joseph on Saturday. 

Joplin’s next home game will be on July 12 against Chillicothe.
