MCDONALD COUNTY 7, SPRINGFIELD CATHOLIC 1
ANDERSON, Mo. — Class 5 No. 4 McDonald County clinched its first ever Big 8 Conference title in program history after pushing across seven runs in the first three innings against Springfield Catholic on the way to the win on Saturday.
The Mustangs (21-6) jumped in front with a four-run second inning, with one run coming in on a bases-loaded walk before Cole Martin pushed across three more runs with a bases-loaded double to left-center. Three more runs came in an inning later for McDonald County on RBI singles from Cross Dowd and Colton Ruddick, with another run coming in on a throwing error.
Springfield Catholic got on the board with a home run by Logan Ripper in the top of the fourth, but that was all of the offense for the game.
Weston Gordon earned the complete-game win after allowing one run on four hits, two walks and six strikeouts in seven innings.
Coleman Morrison took the loss after allowing six runs on two hits, four walks and a strikeout in two innings. Cole Schen allowed one run on one hit, four walks and four strikeouts in four relief innings.
Martin doubled and drove in two, while Levi Helm doubled and scored a run for McDonald County. Dowd had a hit, drove in one and scored twice.
McDonald County is at Republic on Monday.
WEBB CITY 7, JOPLIN 1
WEBB CITY, Mo. — Webb City pushed across three early runs to build a lead before hanging a crooked number in the fifth inning to pull away from Joplin in a non-conference win on Saturday.
William Hayes gave the Cardinals (15-14) the lead in the first inning with a sacrifice fly to left to score Eric Fitch, who singled to start the inning, for a 1-0 lead. Cade Wilson singled home a run in the last of the third before later scoring on a Joplin error to push the lead to 3-0.
Justin McReynolds doubled home Kyler Stokes in the top of the fourth to trim the deficit for the Eagles (12-13) to 3-1, but Webb City answered with a run in the bottom half on an RBI single from Fitch.
The Cardinals put the final touches on the win in the bottom of the fifth when Aidan Brock hit a three-run home run to left with one out to make the score 7-1.
Gavin Stowell earned the complete-game win after allowing one run on one hit, four walks and seven strikeouts in seven innings.
Byler Reither took the loss after allowing six runs, three earned, on seven hits, five strikeouts and two walks in 4 1/3 innings. Joe Jasper allowed one run on two hits, a walk and a strikeout in 1 2/3 relief innings.
Wilson had three hits, including a double, scored twice and drove in one. Fitch had two hits, an RBI and a run scored. Brock homered, had three RBI and scored once.
McReynolds had the lone hit and RBI for Joplin.
Webb City is at Kickapoo on Tuesday.
Joplin hosts Glendale for Senior Night on Monday.
CARL JUNCTION 5, PARKVIEW 4
CARL JUNCTION, Mo. — Carl Junction rallied with two runs in the bottom of the seventh to earn a walk-off win over Parkview on Saturday in the first of two games for the Bulldogs.
Trailing 4-3 in its final at-bat, Carl Junction (10-15) saw the tying run in the form of Kyler Perry reach on an error with one out in the inning. Jordan Woodruff followed with a single to right field to put runners at the corners. The Bulldogs tied the game up in the next at-bat when Shane Diskin singled to center field to plate Perry. Following a walk to load the bases and the second out in the inning on a strikeout, Drew Massey drew another walk after falling down 2-2 to force in the winning run.
Woodruff earned the win in relief after allowing a hit and striking out one in two scoreless innings. Hunter Cantrell started and took a no-decision after allowing two runs on two hits, two walks and four strikeouts in four innings.
Dylan Mahan took the loss in relief after allowing five runs, three earned, in four hits, two walks and strikeout in 2 2/3 innings.
Woodruff had two hits, two RBI and scored twice to lead CJ at the plate. Diskin and Lucas Vanlanduit each had two hits and drove in one. Woodruff and Vanlanduit doubled.
Carl Junction hosts Nixa on Monday.
CARL JUNCTION 11, SENECA 6
CARL JUNCTION, Mo. — Carl Junction used a four-run inning in the fourth to take the lead and scored four more runs in the sixth frame to put the game away against Seneca on Saturday.
The Indians (5-20) led 3-1 heading into the fourth inning when the Bulldogs scored four runs on three hits and two Seneca errors. Cole Wilson started the scoring with an RBI single through the left side before Massey doubled to center field to play the tying and go-ahead runs. Two batters later, Logan Eck singled home an insurance run with two outs to push the lead to 5-3.
Perry singled to center in the sixth with the bases loaded to score two runs before another two runs came in on seperate Seneca errors.
Perry earned the win on the mound after allowing three runs on three hits, six walks and six strikeouts in five innings. Gaige Carson allowed three runs on four hits, a walk and six strikeouts in two relief innings.
Tanner Nesvold took the loss after allowing 11 runs, three earned, on 13 hits and six strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings.
Perry had two hits, drove in two and scored a run for CJ at the plate. Woodruff had a hit and scored three times, while Diskin and Dalton Mills each collected two hits. Mills scored twice and Diskin drove in a pair.
Conner Ackerson had two hits and scored two runs for Seneca, while Brian Bigbee had two hits and drove in two.
AURORA 11, CARTHAGE 1 (5 INNINGS)
AURORA, Mo. — Aurora scored two runs in the first, three in the second and five more in the fourth on the way to a five-inning win over Carthage on Saturday.
Kelton Brown earned the win after pitched three scoreless innings, walking one and striking out three. Jaesik Friggle allowed one run on three hits, two walks and a strikeout in two relief innings.
Parker Copeland took the loss after allowing eight runs on seven hits, a walk and two strikeouts in three innings of work. Kanen Vogt allowed three runs, two earned, on three hits and two walks in 1 1/3 relief innings.
Trandan Darnell had three hits, an RBI and a run scored for Aurora, while Aaron Fisher had three hits, two runs scored and an RBI. Kelton Brown had two hits, four RBI and a run scored.
Caden Kabance, Braxdon Tate and Sylas Browning all had hits for Carthage. Vogt had an RBI.
Carthage also fell 6-5 to Lebanon on Saturday. No other information was available at time of publication.
NEVADA 21, NEOSHO 5
NEOSHO, Mo. — Nevada took a 5-4 lead into the sixth inning before scoring 16 runs on 10 hits—five for extra bases—two walks, two hit-by-pitches and three errors put the game away on Saturday at Roy B. Shaver Field.
Elijah Cheaney earned the win for the Tigers (14-5) after allowing four unearned runs on four hits, a walk and four strikeouts in five innings of work. Kartman Highley allowed one on a hit and a walk in one relief inning.
Cade Beshore had three hits, including two doubles, two RBI and a run scored, while Case Sanderson doubled on the way to three hits and four runs scored. Asa Wilson, who also doubled twice, and Logan Marquardt each had three hits. Wilson had four RBI and scored twice, while Marqardt, who doubled, had two RBI and scored twice. Caden Klumpp tripled and had two hits and scored twice, while Cheaney had two hits, four RBI and two runs scored.
Kael Smith had two hits and three RBI for Neosho (11-15), while Eli Zar tripled and drove in one. Wyatt Shadwick and Carter Baslee each had a hit.
Neosho is at East Newton on Monday.
Nevada is at Harrisonville on Tuesday.
